With DC Comics stealing the spotlight in the past month with a multitude of content and announcements, Marvel Studios have finally retaliated during the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, with the first official trailer to their upcoming TV show, WandaVision.
The brand new and exclusive Disney+ TV show is one of the most anticipated and intriguing of Marvel’s Phase Four line-up, having now swapped places with the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Solider, and will now be released later in the year, possibly after the second season of The Mandalorian has been fully released.
WandaVision is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will follow Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as they return as their fan-favourite roles of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and the Vision, who hasn’t been seen onscreen since meeting his demise at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
The plot of the new series has been kept under wraps thus far, with only a few details being unveiled, and the new trailer does a fantastic job of maintaining the secrecy.
The new trailer gives us a glimpse of what to expect, including a brief glimpse of a grownup Monica Rambeau, who was last seen in Captain Marvel (2019). It even hints at the comic books that inspired the show, such as “House of M” and “Visions”.
The series looks unlike anything that has been seen before in the MCU, with Wanda and Vision living idyllic suburban lives, but beginning to suspect that everything is not as it seems, as they travel through varying TV shows.
The series is said to draw influence from a number of sitcoms, including I Love Lucy, and will even feature a Halloween focused episode, with both characters finally getting to wear their comic accurate costumes.
How this series comes to fruition, and how it ties into the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness remains to be seen, but this truly looks like something completely new and will be well worth keeping an eye on.
Marvel Studios’ WandaVision will begin streaming December 2020.
