After months of rumours, fan-casting and speculation, Deadline has broke the news that the brand new Disney+ series She-Hulk has officially cast Orphan Black actress Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk.

The new series will follow the cousin of Bruce Banner, who, in the comics gains similar powers as the Hulk after a blood transfusion, but unlike her cousin, remains in control of her green-skinned alter-ego, and often prefers to remain that way.

This news comes just after Dead to Me’s Kat Coiro has been announced as the director of several episodes, including the pilot. It has also been confirmed that Rick and Morty scribe Jessica Gao will lead the writer’s room.

The series was announced as part of the MCU’s Phase Four line-up, with the release date scheduled for 2022, but with delays to both the movies and other shows, it is unclear when the show will be officially released. Reportedly, the show is set to begin production in Atlanta, Georgia early 2021.

No other official news has been announced at the time of writing, and there has been no confirmation whether we will see the appearance of Mark Ruffalo himself as Banner, although he has dropped several hints about reprising his role and mentioned he is in preliminary talks to join the show.

Speculation has turned to how they will be bringing the Jade Giant to life, with the likelihood of her being created using motion-capture in a similar vein to Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The new series is really starting to take shape, and the casting is sure to be welcomed news for fans.

It is unclear what direction the show will be taking or whether we will get to see the fourth-wall breaking fan favourite version of the character, but we are excited to find out.

Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk will stream on Disney+ in 2022.
