Starting life as an end of course LIPA project back in 2014, then moving on to rave reviews at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Shout: The Mod Musical which is currently at The Liverpool Royal Court Theatre has finally hit the big stage with one almighty bang – not to say SHOUT – at that.
Packed with colour, passion, fun, laughter, sadness and above superbly performed, beautifully sung and magnificently choreographed music, this show crackles with so much fizz, vitality and energy it should really come with a health warning.
At the heart of proceedings are the outstanding cast, reunited following their Scottish stint and graduating just two years ago. Perhaps it just that each one of them – and their backing band of live musicians – is astoundingly talented that makes things go with such a swing, but the fact each and every one of them is clearly having an absolute ball – and that they are so obviously a bunch of best mates back on stage together – can only help.
So good are each of their individual and combined performances, it would be unfair to say that any one of them outshone the others. Yet with that said, there is a moment when Orange Girl and Blue Girl perform a duet that is guaranteed to have you on your feet and roaring your approval.
An honest to goodness, feel good fun fest of a show, Shout: The Mod Musical may only be on for a shorter than usual run at the Royal Court, but there will be big SHOUT outs for it to return sooner rather than later, because this is one terrific night out indeed.
