Review: Albert's Schenke

Mission Mars, the innovative team behind award-winning food & drink venues such as The Elephant in Woolton, Liverpool, and Albert’s Schloss in Manchester, have opened up what they’re calling the aforementioned Schloss’s baby brother, Albert’s Schenke, in the heart of Liverpool One.

This past weekend, it held a ticket-only launch Bier Festival Weekend.

The night prior to this, we got to experience the vibe, the lively atmosphere and some of the food that is on offer now that the venue is officially open to all.

It’s always exciting when a new venue launches, even if it has presence elsewhere, people come together in droves and in a city like Liverpool, the vibrancy and atmosphere is like nowhere else.

A three course meal was served, with fantastic drinks, including some rejuvenating and refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails.

For starters, we went with the trio of croquettes, spiced lamb, ham & cheese, and pea & mint. All 3 were individually special, each one complimented each other and fit together in a great combo. It’s easily a dish that is to be enjoyed time and time again, at least it deserves to be.

It was then time for the main course, we went with the Berliner spiced lamb kebab, perfectly pulled, on a flatbread, accompanied very nicely by hummus, cucumber, fresh mint, coriander, pomegranate and more. The highlight of this course was the pulled lamb, it was soft and bursting with flavour, especially with the fruit and the leaves. A wonderfully filling course, certainly a pleasant choice for a main course.

Lastly, it was dessert time, the waiter recommended the apple strudel, a brilliant recommendation. A spiced apple and raisin compote, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it was a slice that put a pleasing end to a three course meal that was flavourful and fragrant in all ways.

The rest of the menu sounds incredible too, it’ll be exciting to pop back in and enjoy more of the food on offer in the coming weeks.

The aforementioned non alcoholic cocktails went down beautifully during and following the meal, the Blackberry & Almond mocktail was a firm favourite, and a real treat for an after work, or pre-gig drink for those that are not drinking.

Albert’s Schenke features 20 biers on tap, curated excellently by on-site bier masters.

Live music and entertainment is featured from Thursday through until Sunday.

Speaking of music, during our meal, Lucie Meiselle performed a variety of songs in an effortless way to bring in the good vibes with everything else on offer.

There is a plethora of great food, great drinks and much more to be had at Albert’s Schenke. A fantastic tavern for any occasion, we’re already looking forward to our next visit.
