Orwell go Continental at Mello Mello with Harvest Sun Promotions

Eric Blair was never noted to be much of a music fan, yet the author of 1984 has had his pen name adopted by one of the most acclaimed acts to have come out of France in recent years.

Following on from 2009’s highly acclaimed Le Genie Humaine, French baroque-pop act Orwell recently unveiled Continental, their first English language album.

Harvest Sun Promotions bring the group, which is the solo project of Jerome Didelot, backed by a full live band.

Sonically the group is similar to Anglo-French act Stereolab and anyone mourning the passing of Laetitia Sadier’s band will find Orwell’s laid-back lounge pop highly appealing.

The band’s luscious songs are evocative of the melodic flourishes of Burt Bacharach, the craftsmanship of The High Llamas and the subtle electronica of Air.

Appearing in the intimate surroundings of Mello Mello, Slater Street this Friday, (10th June) the band are extremely likely to win new converts on the opening date of their UK tour.
