Coming to the Static Gallery... Graduale Nobili

In keeping with their practice of bringing diverse, wide-ranging musical acts to the city, Harvest Sun Promotions present Graduale Nobili at the Static Gallery.

Presently appearing as Bjork’s 24 piece backing choir, the choristers are playing one of the most interesting gigs to be hosted in the city this year.

Taking a break from their performances at Bjork’s sell-out concerts, Graduale Nobili will be appearing at a special intimate gig.

The Icelandic singer’s concerts at Manchester’s International Festival have been widely acclaimed following her opening night performance and other dates across the three-week event.

Graduale Nobili appear on the singer’s new album, Biophilia, which is due for release in September.

The all-female choir have become an integral part of Bjork’s work, as the Biophilia project is planned to run for two years and undertake performances in eight cities.

In complete contrast to the cutting edge technology used at the Manchester concerts, the choir will be appearing on stage at the Static Gallery with no instruments or PA.

Founded in 2000, the choir and is made up of girls between the ages of 17 and 24 who have graduated from the Langholtskirkja Graduale Choir.

The choir’s first record was released in 2001, which was composed of lesser-known choral works from Iceland and abroad.

Their second disc, issued in 2008, presented Icelandic Choral Music, much of which was specifically written for the choir.

The choir’s founder and conductor Jon Stefansson, qualified as a cantor in Iceland before studying at the Academy of Music in Vienna.

He has been choirmaster and organist at the Langholtskirkja Church in Reykjavik since 1964.

The promoters promise tonight’s performance will be ‘jaw droppingly beautiful’, in a concert that is bound to be talked about in the city for a long time to come.
