Harvest Sun Promotions have scored another winner over the summer months bringing nu-folk singer Sea of Bees to the Scandinavian Church.

The solo project of Julie Ann Baenziger, the band recently supported Smoke Faeries in London and played an incredible four shows at the Glastonbury festival.

A native of Sacramento, California, the multi-instrumentalist’s first full-length album Songs for the Ravens was released to widespread acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic last year.

Hailed as a ‘female Sparklehorse,’ Julie deals in the same melancholy folk-country as the late Mark Linkous.

Describing her music as ‘freak folk’, fans of Sufjan Stevens are also highly recommended to check out Sea of Bees’ work, which shares the same melodic orch-pop feel as her New York contemporary.

Single Sidepain Video was recently awarded Track of the Day by Q magazine, while Jason Lytle, lead singer of Granddaddy has declared himself a fan.

The group’s UK tour takes in a booking on the Huw Stephens’ programmed stage at the Latitude festival in just over a week’s time.

Scene of several Harvest Sun gigs, The Scandinavian Church has played host to the best in Liverpool’s folk scene recently including Misery Guts and The Random Family.

Weaving together guitars, cellos, piano and marimbas, Sea of Bees’ richly textured songs should find their perfect setting acoustically in the beautiful venue.

Liverpool folk singer Laura J. Martin who has been championed by Marc Riley and Rob Da Bank is amongst the support acts on the night.

As the gig is taking place on consecrated ground, remember to bring your own booze.
