A large piece of The Beatles has been auctioned

Countrywide Property Auctions and estate agents Entwistle Green are delighted to announce the sale of Sir Paul McCartney’s former childhood home which sold at auction yesterday evening for £150,000.

Sir Paul McCartney’s former childhood home of 72 Western Avenue, Speke, Liverpool, had a guide price of £100,000 with other houses in the same street being worth half the price of what McCartney’s old home sold for.

A number of buyers showed interest in purchasing a slice of Sir Paul McCartney’s history including international bidders but the property sold to a buyer from the UK.

The house that was filled with music during McCartney’s younger years was sold within just six minutes.

The seller of the property said they were delighted with the sale of the property and hopes the new owner enjoys it.

Andrew Brown, Managing Director, Countrywide Property Auctions, said, “We are delighted to have sold such an iconic piece of The Beatles and Liverpool’s history.”

Stephen Giddins, Regional Sales Director of Entwistle Green, said: “We are delighted for our client as we were consciously aware that there was a lot of interest in the property and we wanted to ensure that this translated into achieving the best price possible for them.”

Paul was aged four when in 1947 his parents Jim and Mary moved into this mid terrace, three-bedroom council house. Due to Mary’s career as a local midwife, the McCartney’s were a very well known family in Speke.

It is said that, 72 Western Avenue is the first house that Paul remembers living at and he speaks very fondly of his six years living there.
