To celebrate the release of their initial wave of artists for the Liverpool Disco Festival 2017 and 30 years of Southport Weekender in May, the team are very proud to host electronic music legend Louie Vega in Liverpool on Friday 24 th February for a special show at Constellations. Louie has been nominated for a Grammy Award in 2017 for his house music opus Starring…XXVIII in the dance/electronic album category, indicative of his immense and ongoing contribution to the music scene over the decades, right to the very present.

The Masters at Work maestro is bringing his infamous Flashback party to the UK for the first time, and he is going right back to his roots. Taking in a musical odyssey across four hours of disco, soulful late 80s and 90s house classics, boogie, rock, dance, nu wave, Latin, afrobeat classics and more, this is set to be a unique show in the city, whilst also looking ahead to the Liverpool Disco Festival itself just a few months later in early summer.

In the Constellations courtyard there is also going to be an unveiling of a brand new art mural by Richard Wilson of “The Queen of the Night Loleatta Holloway” for her new single Can’t Let You Go, which is released on Louie’s label in March. The mural will be used as the cover for the release, and helping to celebrate its creation there is a pre-party from 6pm in Constellations’ lobby and yard. Richard Wilson is a London based artist who is inspired by DJs and producers and singers from the house music and disco scene.

Coming from a graffiti background in the 80s, he decided to start painting his musical heroes on walls around the world, and is now also working with inspiring people from other walks of life and not just from the music sphere. And don’t forget Liverpool Disco Festival are extremely proud to announce they are returning on Saturday May 6th, following on from last October’s incredible debut event. The weekend carries a special resonance across the UK and beyond, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the legendary Southport Weekender, who along with Hustle and SUNcéBeat present an epic showcase of music in the city’s thriving creative quarter, the Baltic Triangle.

SUNcéBeat and Hustle are bringing together not only all the best parts that made the first Liverpool Disco Festival so special, but adding some more of the music and special touches which made the Southport Weekender unique. It’s a seminal event which has traversed the ages across the predominantly house and disco spectrums, having hosted some huge global artists from Chaka Khan to Jill Scott and A Tribe Called Quest to Gregory Porter.

The list of live acts and DJs over the past 30 years makes for mesmerising reading, and it is in this effervescent and revered spirit that the first wave of artists are revealed for the Liverpool Disco Festival.
