Meghan Trainor announces UK tour

After taking the pop world by storm last year with her break out hit ‘All About That Bass’, American Singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor announces the details of her first ever UK headline tour, set to take place in April.

The tour will kick off at Manchester’s Ritz on April 9th with dates in major cities including Glasgow and Birmingham before finishing off at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on April 13th.

Having begun singing at the age of six, song-writing at age 11 as well as remarkably producing and releasing a self-titled album at the age of 15, it’s no wonder that at the tender age of 21, Trainor is already embarking on an international tour.

The songstress’ so far meteoric success can be attributed to her debut single released on June 30 last year, ‘All About That Bass’, which was a best-selling single reaching number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks and seemingly going global overnight.

The UK tour announcement closely follows the release of Trainor’s latest single ‘Lips Are Movin’, the second single to be taken from her upcoming debut album Title which is due for release January 26th.

Another healthy serving of 21st-century womanhood and self-empowerment, ‘Lips Are Movin’ has further cemented Trainor as an exciting young pop star, one with more writing credentials than has been the recent trend in the pop industry.

Although successful, Trainor’s empowering tracks have been the subject of critical debate for being anti-feminist, particularly the contradictory message of body confidence (but only if you are a certain shape or size) in ‘All About That Bass’.

Trainor has reacted to these opinions in an interview with Billboard in December 2014 saying, "I don't consider myself a feminist, but I'm down for my first opportunity to say something to the world to be so meaningful. If you asked me, 'What do you want to say?' it would be, 'Love yourself more.'” – A typically saccharine response from the doo-wop pop singer but she is sticking to her guns all the same.

In spite of this slight controversy Trainor’s success seems unstoppable as ‘All About That Bass’ has also been given a Grammy nomination for the ‘Song Of The Year’ in 2015.

With such chart-topping credentials adding up to a great year for the young popstar and her self-titled album set to be released ahead of her UK tour Trainor seems bound for a stellar 2015 as one of the most hotly-tipped new acts in the industry.
