It’s that time of year again and love is in the air. What better way to celebrate cupid's day than curling up on the couch to watch a heart warming movie.

Whether you're spending Valentine's Day alone or smooching your significant other... or even just chilling with your friends, here are ten favourite romantic flicks to watch.

Be sure to have popcorn, snuggly cushions and tissues at the ready!

1. The Notebook

Released in 2004, this is widely regarded as one of the best love stories from the modern era... and a definitive tear jerker.

Torn apart by war and class, The Notebook follows Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) throughout the past and present of their relationship. It will, without a doubt, have your reaching for the tissues.

Also, we can’t forget about the iconic rain-soaked kiss.

2. 10 Things I Hate About You

A personal favourite of this writer and one you can never go wrong with.

What can go wrong if you’re being paid to date someone? The 1999 classic features the striking screen presence of a young Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles; as their characters face off as reluctant foes - who eventually fall in love.

Plus, who doesn’t love Ledger’s rendition of Frankie Valli’s hit ‘Can't Take My Eyes Off You.’

3. A Walk to Remember

Nicholas Sparks’ knows how to break hearts.

After falling in with the wrong crowd, Landon Carter (Shane West), is sentenced to community service and forms a friendship with Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore). Their lives are about to take a drastic turn as they try to make their love last forever and discover truths that take most people a lifetime to learn.

This one will definitely pull at your heartstrings.

4. Friends with Benefits

Platonic sex is just as complicated as love.

Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) try to rebel against dating clichés and relationship stereotypes to only discover, it’s just not that easy.

Will they remain just friends or will they become more?

5. Dear John

Can a letter really change everything?

When soldier John Tyree (Channing Tatum) meets idealistic college student Savannah (Amanda Seyfried), it’s the beginning of a strong romance. Meeting in person only rarely, the lovers stay in touch through letters, which trigger consequences neither could foresee.

6. 500 Days of Summer

This is not your traditional romantic comedy, true love doesn’t exist.

This movie highlights Summer (Zooey Deschanel) and Tom's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) relationship in a non-linear fashion as Tom reflects on their days spent together, and is a great portrayal of modern love.

7. Notting Hill

Julia Roberts is known for her roles in romantic comedies and this is no exception.

She plays a famous actress, Anna Scott, who just wants a normal life and meets Will Thacker (Hugh Grant), an awkward bookshop owner.

Their lives prove very different but will they fall in love?

8. Dirty Dancing

A little dancing never hurt nobody!

Fall in love with two lovers from opposite sides of the track (Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey) as they fall in love at summer camp. Well... sure you know the rest. "Nobody puts Baby in the corner!"

9. Letters to Juliet

A road-trip around Italy is all you need.

When visiting Verona, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) finds a letter from 1957 and decides to write back which sparks an adventure. Now elderly author, Claire (Vanessa Redgrave), accompanied by her disapproving grandson (Christoper Egan), set out to find her long-lost lover.

Will Claire be reunited with her one true love and will other romances blossom along the way?

10. Valentines Day

It’s the Love Actually of Valentine’s Day and it would be wrong to not include it in our list.

Following a handful of Los Angeles locals as they navigate the most romantic day of the year, all of whom are having different experiences with love.

The all-star cast makes this movie the perfect Valentine’s Day treat.
