With the ongoing pandemic putting many movies and shows on hold, we’ve only had a few new releases to sink our teeth into. Now, as the world begins to reopen, Disney and the newly retitled 20th Century Studios have released the first teaser trailer to Death on the Nile.

Based on the best-selling Agatha Christie novel of the same name, Death on the Nile sees Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamourous river steamer turn into a terrifying crime scene when a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short.

The follow-up to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express sees Kenneth Branagh return as both director and as Poirot himself, alongside a new, but equally star-studded ensemble cast.

The suspects include a wide variety of familiar faces, including Wonder Woman 1984’s Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Annette Bening, Letitia Wright, Russell Brand, Sophie Okonedo and comedy duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.

Death on the Nile is one of the most regularly adapted books starring the Belgian sleuth, and is considered, overall, a much darker story, with a higher body count.

The movie is currently slated for a theatrical release on 23rd October 2020, which gives us something new and different to look forward to.

The trailer certainly looks good and more stylised than Orient Express. This adaptation has the potential to be brilliant, and we can only hope it is.

Death on the Nile will be released in cinemas 23rd October 2020.
