Valentine’s day this year is a very different experience for most of us, with lockdown restrictions limiting the ways we can celebrate.

Whether you’re lucky enough to be marking the occasion with your other half or having a night in with the family, here are five feel good Rom Coms that are sure to raise spirits and put a smile on your face.


1) The Five-Year Engagement

Kicking things off is a 2012 American romantic comedy, from the producers of Bridesmaids. The film centres around the journey between popping the question and tying the knot. After a yearlong budding relationship, Tom proposes to his girlfriend Violet.

But planning a date for the wedding is not a simple task, after the couple move to Michigan for Violet’s new job.

After 2 years of being engaged turns into 4, an irritated Tom boils over on the eve of yet another wedding date. The Couple must revaluate and come to a decision on the engagement.


2) 13 going on 30

This one is a classic and an iconic coming-of-age film. Thirteen-year-old Jenna is fed up with the social pressures of junior high school and is transformed into a grownup overnight after a desperate wish comes true.

But Jenna soon finds out that adulthood is not all fun and games and comes with its own set of challenges. This timeless story will tug at your inner teenager’s heartstrings and leave you feeling nostalgic for your youth.


3) 10 things I hate about you

You probably didn’t realise that this romantic teen comedy is actually based loosely on Shakespeare's play ‘The Taming of the Shrew.’ Cameron, a brand-new student to Padua High is whisked away by Bianca Stratford.

This pretty and popular sophomore has one problem in her way, she is not allowed to date without her older sister Kat also having a date. Desperately trying to find someone for Bianca’s sister, Cameron enlists the help of bad boy Patrick Verona.


4) Hitch

Starring Will Smith, a dating coach Alex Hitchens takes client Albert under his wing, who is hoping to win the heart of the gorgeous Allegra Cole.

Albert’s progress with Allegra is not matched by Hitch, who struggles to impress Sara Melas - a reporter digging up dirt on Allegra’s private love life. Both relationships are put in jeopardy when Sara discovers Hitch’s connection to Allegra’s new boyfriend.


5) Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This classic comedy could never get old and will remain one of the funniest rom coms of the noughties. Played by Jason Segal, Peter Bretter ends his relationship with toxic girlfriend Sarah Marshall.

After jetting off to Hawaii for a needed break from reality, Jason meets hotel clerk Rachel. However, his ex and her new boyfriend (Russell Brand) are there in the same hotel.
