Animated versions of the legendary flesh-eating alien plant Audrey II will put the frighteners on Halloween revellers at showings of the film Little Shop of Horrors tonight.

The replicas will appear at unique immersive screenings of the 1986 classic musical to be shown at the VideOdyssey studio cinema in Toxteth.

The astonishing puppet characters are the work of stage and film props expert Nick Molloy from Wirral.

Nick has created four different versions Audrey II – one hand held and the other more than six feet tall – for the events to be staged again tonight (Sunday) after a sell out event yesterday.

Audrey II will interact with audience members alongside other actors playing characters from the iconic film in a party atmosphere.

Part of the VideOdyssey Studios facility at Toxteth TV has been transformed into an impressive replica of the Mushnik's flower shop film set, for the occasion.

Already approaching a sell-out - there are still a few tickets left for the Sunday night performance at the cinema on Windsor Street, Toxteth.

VideOdyssey Studios owner Andy Johnson said: “The interest we've had for this has been mind-blowing, but then it’s a pretty amazing musical and an all-time classic.

"We've been teasing pictures of the Audrey II puppets, which has been causing a stir, but we're yet to reveal the biggest version, which is going to be able to move around the venue on the night and interact with fans.

“We've pulled out all the stops to make this a completely unique Halloween event and I’m confident that it is going to be our best yet.

“The audience will arrive through a version of Skid Row where the alien is shown as dropping to earth at Chang’s Exotic Plants in the film.

“Then they will be able to visit our giant Audrey II in our own replica of Mushnik’s flower shop, where she takes root and performs her evil deeds.

“Everyone will want to have pictures taken with these legendary characters, but I can’t guarantee that if they get too close they won’t risk being eaten alive!”

The Little Shop of Horrors screenings welcomes fans to sing-a-long to the comedy musical starring Rik Moranis, Ellen Greene and an electrifying performance by Steve Martin as a sadistic dentist.

There will be a themed Little Shop of Horrors cakes and cocktail menu available, to make sure guests are dancing in the aisles.

Prop and Film maker Nick Molloy added: “It was a challenge to get these versions of Audrey II looking just right.

“But it’s been a real buzz and I hope that on the night people will agree that we’ve pulled it off.

“Audrey II goes through an amazing transformation in the film - ranging from a cute little hungry plant in need of some TLC, to a giant carnivorous monster.

“I can’t wait to see the reactions from the audience when they meet her.”
