Thor and Avengers actor Tom Hiddleston has been cast in the King Kong reboot, Skull Island.

Helmed by Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the movie will serve as a prequel to the original King Kong, taking place on the great ape’s homeland.

Skull Island, announced at Comic-Con over the summer, will be written by Max Borenstein.

The original King Kong, which revolutionised cinema in 1933, has already been remade twice, most recently by Peter Jackson in 2005.

Legendary Pictures added the property to a growing list of monster movie licenses, which also includes Godzilla and Pacific Rim.

The King Kong revival has sparked rumours that Kong could eventually appear in a crossover film with Godzilla, a concept that was previously tackled by Toho Studios 1962.

Skull Island will be released on 15th November, 2016.
