Quentin Tarantino’s violent western Django Unchained has lived out a separate life in comic books during the past year and is now set for trade release this week.

Producer on the film Reginald Hudlin, has been working from an unabridged version of the script, including all the original scenes that had to be cut from the movie.

Kill Bill director Tarantino admits his scripts are more like big works of literature. He said: “When I write my big epic scripts there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t make it into the movies because they are just too f—ing big.”

Tarantino assures readers they can enjoy stark differences in character and story thanks to veteran artist RM Guéra who also adapted Inglorious Basterds.

Expect to see Guéra strip the Slave of his smoothness for a steely cowboy vibe and push Leonardo Di Caprio’s character to the limits of menace.

Tarantino is no stranger to comic books, enjoying The adventures of Kid Colt Outlaw and TOMAHAWK as a youngster.

In the book’s foreword the director notes Kid Cassidy as “the greatest ‘Blaxploitation’ western ever made,” adding “it’s in that spirit of cinematic comics literature that I present to you DJANGO UNCHAINED.”

Fans of the award winning movie have been able to buy weekly editions of the comic throughout the year.

But from November 6, the whole series is being released as a stylish single hardback, destined for coffee tables across the country this Christmas.
