Purple Revolver have examined the emerging fashion trends for 70s bohemian and disco alongside colour blocking to ensure your wardrobe stays ahead of the season.

London, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks injected a fresh burst of colour into the ready to wear Spring/Summer 2011 collections, including neon brights and colour blocking as seen in the Christopher Kane and Prada runway shows.

British Vogue identify neon, tangerine and bright white as the key colours to be seen in this season.

Traditionally viewed as a bold and youthful palette, the neon trend can be incorporated into every day wear by blocking neons with neutral colours.

We spotted a red leather mini skirt from Little Red Vintage, Bold St, Liverpool, (see pic) which is a perfect way to channel the trend this season.

Clash red with further blocks of colour such as a colbalt blue blouse for a catwalk look, or pair with a crisp, white blouse to achieve another of this season’s key hues.

Alternatively, you could invest in a pair of coloured pop heels or a clutch is an easy and affordable way to get ahead of the trend and inject some summer style into your current wardrobe.

Little Red Vintage offer a wide selection of beautiful vintage garments and re-worked items to reflect the emerging 70’s bohemian trend and for a more affordable take on pieces being pushed on the High Street.

You can find statement flower headbands, big hats and floaty maxi’s for a luxe hippy look and jewelled feather turbans for adding a disco vibe.

Alongside colours Little Red owner Kate Harris predicts that bright 70’s florals will be a big trend this season.

She said: “People are buying vintage all year round now, because it is the perfect way to mix your look up with the High Street and still add an individual flare.

“We have a great relationship with our regular customers and we are doing really well at the moment because of the 70s trend.

“People prefer to buy vintage and we expect the demand for our 70s pieces to build all year round.

“Part of the trends emerging at the moment are flower headbands, big hats and floaty maxi dresses.”

The 70’s revival is perhaps the most mainstream influence for spring/summer 2011 trends. This look incorporates a variety of Seventies styles including bohemian looks, featuring wide felt floppy hats, patterned maxi’s and flares.

Ranging to disco luxe looks which include sky high block heels and luxurious silk and lurex fabrics, as seen at Feragmo.

Lisa Pritchard of Resurrection, also on Bold Street, predicts that bright neon will be a key look on the streets this summer.

Resurrection stocks neon Dr Martens in the season’s hottest shades including tangerine and lime, which she predicts will be a big hit with teenagers.

Lisa said: “Hip labels such as Jones and Jones and Religion are also making brighter colours a feature for their summer collections, mixed with summery floral patterns and full skirt dresses, perfect for the new season.”

The store also offers a range of 70’s style jumpsuits and playsuits in retro and bright floral patterns from brands such as Totem and Traffic People.
