Rap legend Snoop Dogg has been axed from a major Dutch music festival after city officials decided to veto the performance citing his “unsuitability” as the main issue.
The godfather of rap was due to headline the open-air Parkpop event in the Netherlands later this month, along with actress/singer Juliette Lewis and German pop star Nena.
But Snoop Dogg's slot has now been cancelled because authorities are convinced the rapper is not appropriate for The Hague festival, considering a history of legal problems- including drug and firearm offenses.
A statement was released saying, "Snoop Dogg will not perform at Parkpop... (The concert was canceled) in order to preserve the free, open and friendly nature of Parkpop."
But the snub has left festival organizers in a state of disbelief as they were anticipating a triumphant, sold-out slot for the controversial rapper. Spokesman Marit Noorlander says, "We are very, very disappointed."
Officials must also have been mindful of the incident in 2006 when the lanky rapper and his entourage got in a huge brawl with staff at Heathrow. It was only recently that a ban stoping Snoop travelling in and out of the UK was lifted after he was labelled a threat by border authorities.
