It has been reported that this year's X Factor winner will take on the Damien Rice classic.

Although it is yet to be confirmed, it is said that Simon Cowell and his company SyCo are keen for the British winner to cover the ballad.

In the past, the songs covered by X Factor winners have caused controversy. Last year, Matt Cardle covered Biffy Clyro's When We Collide much to rock fans' disappointment.

Covering songs from well established, highly rated and much loved bands and singers has prompted many people to take to social media to overturn the Christmas number one spot.

Back in 2009, winner Joe McElderry's cover of Miley Cyrus' The Climb was ambushed by a Facebook campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to the number one slot.

It was the start of things to come, as many an avid music fan were growing tired of seeing the X Factor winner claim Christmas number one after Christmas number one.

So, what do you think of this cover? Is it a good thing as it may direct fans to the original? Or is Simon Cowell yet again, stealing all the glory?
