Bloodstock Open Air returned to the grounds of Catton Hall in Derbyshire this weekend, transforming the stately home into a heavy metal mecca for three days and nights.

Friday night brought us sets from metals finest including WASP who drew the mainstage to a close to the delight of a crowd with bellies full of ale and spirits.

Blackie Lawless the only original member left is long past his animalesque days but they played a full on set and the theatrical performance from the codpieced pensioners had everyone in high spirits by the time the first night proper of Bloodstock came to an end.

Devin Townsend played before WASP making his Bloodstock return and donning a sharp suit and tie in contrast to the codpieces, studs and leather that became a defining feature of the weekend, put on a superb set.

Honourable mentions in dispatches for Kreator. Late addition to the festival with their unique brand of German Thrash Metal on the Ronnie James Dio stage. And Octoberfile on the Sophie Lancaster stage attracted a great crowd with a wicked set.
